Cates Up Nearly $800,000 in “Durrrr Challenge”

by Lou on January 10, 2011

The Durrr Challenge—this one featuring Tom “Durrrr” Dwan against Dan “jungleman12” Cates is about one-third over, and after the most recent confrontation, the jungleman is up more than $819,000 after slightly more than 17,000 hands.

The most recent big hand occurred when both players completed a flush on the turn.  The board was Qc-8h-6h-Kh. Dwan held 5h-4h, but his hand was no good because the Jungleman held Jh-2h.

Cates, who was 2010’s biggest online winner, taking down more than $5.5 million, will win another $1.5 million plus the money he wins over the table if he is able to defeat Durrr in this 50,000 hand match.

My only hope is that this match is completed in something close to a timely manner, since the first match in the Durrrr Challenge—Dwan vs. Patrik Antonius—has dragged on interminably and has lost all momentum along with most fan interest.
